Virgin Mountain refers to the untouched and remote mountain ranges across the Tairora area, stretching into the Arona and Yonki Valley and the Billmoya Area.
The coffee trees along these mountain ranges are rather old, having been introduced in the early 1950’s. The soil fertility is excellent and is limited to nil chemical fertilisers, composed garden mulch or cherry pulp is applied in these coffee gardens. Cherries are handpicked by farmers and the pulping, fermentation and washing is done at their homestead. Parchment is sun dried before being delivered to one of the Virgin Mountain buying stations.
