The Hario Skerton hand grinder is a larger grinder than the Porlex .models offered here.
The burr set is Kyocera’s highly regarded conical, ceramic design, meaning that not only is the grind quality excellent, but the whole assembly is easily cleaned and is dishwasher safe. The grind speed is typical for a small hand grinder, meaning that you do need some elbow grease to grind for espresso – but that’s all part of the ‘ceremony’ of coffee making.
At the coarser end of the grind scale, it’s better to call it as being on the finer side of a plunger grind.
The bean hopper is open at the top making for very easy access. The top part of the body is plastic, the bottom is glass. A screw on cap is provided should you want to store beans in the container while travelling. A silicon base for the glass container is also provided, which when fitted, gives a non-slip surface to the bottom of the grinder while you are cranking.
The grind adjustment is locked in place through a central shaft mechanism on the top. To change the setting, you unscrew the top nut, lift the bracket and spin the wheel to a different setting, then replace the bracket and then lock it in by replacing the top nut. This ensures a secure grind setting that won’t slip or slowly change with use.
The Hario Skerton is backed by a full 12 month warranty and ongoing support.
Please note: From time to time, due to supply variations, we may offer a rebadged version of this grinder. Different packaging, but identical grinder, identical quality and warranty.
