This coffee was grown by Benjamin Gilberto Rivera at the farm La Molienda. This coffee is harvested following strict ripeness criteria, floated and hand-sorted to remove any defects. Cherries were then exposed to 30 hours of underwater fermentation before being pulped. The parchment was then gently washed and then dried in temperature controlled conditions until ideal moisture content was achieved. This microlot is 100% Caturra. This variety originated in Minas Gerais, Brazil. It is a natural mutation of Red Bourbon. Caturra produces more coffee and is more resistant to plant diseases than Bourbon.
Benjamin Rivera and his wife, Luz Marina Diaz Rivera, live in the La Pradera village in the department of NariƱo. They
own La Molineda farm, located at 1800 m.a.s.l. They mainly grow traditional Colombian varieties such as
Castillo and variedad Colombia. They have seven children.
They knew that their land was in excellent condition for cultivating high-quality coffee. Despite the numerous
challenges that came their way, Benjamin and his wife did not give up. Their children became involved in the family
business from an early age, contributing to shaping the family name and establishing themselves as renowned coffee growers in the region.
